Elmer Wayne Henley is currently in prison for his part in what has come to be known as the Houston Mass Murders. Twenty-seven young men were sexually assaulted and brutally murdered by Dean Corll, a 33 year old electrician who met 14 year old Wayne as a potentional victim, but instead began using him to procure boys for him to rape and kill.  This madness stopped on August 8, 1973 when Wayne, at age 17, finally killed the man who had destroyed so many lives, Over the years Wayne has expressed extreme sorrow and has taken full responsibility for his part in the crimes.  I see Henley as one of Corll's victims.  He survived (only by killing Corll himself), but has spent his entire adult life in prison.   Henley is a  kind, considerate, well-educated individual who is truly remorseful for what transpired in his youth. This is no consolation to the victims as nothing will ever bring their loved ones back but in this case, it is obvious that rehabilitation within the prison systems works. Wayne finished growing to adulthood in prison . While incarcerated, he finished his education. He has taken many personal development courses, vocational courses and on-the-job training. He has also had an exemplary disciplinary record while in prison. For nearly forty years he has strived to be the best person he can possibly be.

Elmer Wayne Henley 16x20 painting on canvas titled "Farewell the Day".  This is one of Henley's trademark beach sunset paintings, but this is the first and for now the only time he's ever made a person visible instead of painting them as a silhouette.  The woman in this one is standing in a yoga pose next to the water.  Painting is signed Henley in the lower right corner.  Numbered and titled on the back.
