Lee Boyd Malvo (also known as John Lee Malvo) was responsible for the Beltway Sniper Attacks in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  Along with John Allen Muhammad, seventeen-year-old Lee Boyd Malvo killed at least 10 people in a matter of weeks. Muhammad and Malvo were arrested in connection with the attacks on October 24, 2002, following tips from alert citizens.
According to Malvo's confession, he and Muhammad had planned to kill six white people a day for a month in order "to terrorize the nation." The beltway attacks turned out to be only the latest of a series of shootings across the US connected to these individuals which began on the West Coast. Muhammad had befriended the juvenile Malvo, and had enlisted him in the attacks. According to Craig Cooley, one of Malvo's defense attorneys, Malvo believed Muhammad when he told him that the $10 million ransom sought from the US government to stop the sniper killings would be used to establish a Utopian society for one hundred and forty homeless black children on a Canadian compound.
In September 2012, Malvo gave a lengthy interview to the Washington Post. In this interview, Malvo, then 27, stated that “I was a monster...If you look up the definition, that’s what a monster is. I was a ghoul. I was a thief. I stole people’s lives. I did someone else’s bidding just because they said so. . . . There is no rhyme or reason or sense.”

The unpublished 6X4 photograph is printed on computer paper with a crease down the middle from being folded when to send to the recipent.  It's unsigned, however, on the back Malvo has written in his own hand "Age 14, Living on my own in Antigua and Barbuda.  Going to Church S.D.A."
